Summer is ablaze in the valley of Elysium and everything in aglow with sunlight. All animals seek shade in the days, but the cool nights are a reprieve. The prey spawned in the spring are still young enough to be hunted easily, and are quite a morsel. The desert is intolerable, and ten minutes away from the oasis could easily give a creature that is unadapted to the land heatstroke. The beaches are lovely as the water is just so for swimming. Elysium could be seen as heaven on earth, but droughts and fires are always a constant threat.

Sand in his pads was never so sweet to Daces once in his life. It was a long day of scent marking his new land, and this self proclaimed alpha was not only weary and tired when he arrived at the beach, but excited all again as well. Marked he in the plains and the forest already, the beach was a lovely addition to his lands, and he took it with gratitude. No doubt he was thankful for it, but the fact that the land didn't hold much prey was a huge downfall, especially if he was indeed going to start a pack here. But land was land.
Starting to mark the sand, he realized it was pointless. The fine grains of the beach wouldn't hold scent, nor would water. There were no visible plants in the area. But genius occurred! there were pieces of driftwood around the area, scattered farther by the shore. But if he could get them and make a visible line from them, they would be just as good as marking. He would only need to mark the southern part of the beach, where it became more grassy. He didn't need the Fields, and he knew from being out all day that the Fields were huge.
So he began on his way, flicking his tail as he bent his head down to pick up a piece of wood, that was much lighter than expected. Carrying it with much ease, he continued down the beach, noticing quite a few longer pieces, and swaping them each time he found a new one, to the point that he had a two foot long piece of gnarly, seaweared wood in his mouth.
Reaching the end with haste, he placed it and straightened it smoothly before a patch of grass. Not long enough, but he could get more later. It was good enough for now. He marked the wood for good measure, and continued north again, where it was more open and friendly. The sun was just waning now, just above the valley walls to the East as he looked to his left. What was this place to be called? Or his pack, more importantly? Surely he was not the only wolf here, that would drive him mad. He would give up the chance to rule if he would have to rule alone.
Emitting a whiny, high-pitched noise as he yawned, he turned to face the darkening sky in the East. This land did have it's perks, after all. He could watch the moon rise from here, though it would be rather late before it peeked out from the mountains. It would seem Daces had plenty of time, though. Shifting his weight, he layed down, his paws close to being washed over by the ebbing waves.
